Home Server

May 14, 2025

A year ago, I bought a second hand Dell Optiplex 7050 Micro, mainly used as a remote coding server. Yes, you hear that right. When I too lazy to bring my (heavy) MacBook Pro 16-inch when working from coffee shops, I am usually code from my Tailscale-enabled iPad, connected to that server powered with Fedora Server 41, code-server and other development toolkits installed. I have Termius installed on my iPad, but I have a skill issue (and way too lazy) when I must code using Neovim ๐Ÿ˜›.

For me, this home server is so special. With a low price (around IDR 3500k), I can get a machine with decent specifications. Intel Core i7-7700 and 32 GB of RAM. These specs are sufficient for me when used to code a legacy Laravel-based app + Docker during my GovTech Edu times back then.

The page that you see right now is now served by this machine. Cloudflare Zero Trust Tunnel and Traefik worked very well in this regard.

What's next?

Maybe I'll spare more time to make a full-stack portfolio hosted on this machine; let's see!
